Markus Formel
Medziriadky
Medziriadky is a literary platform that provides informal education and visibility for young writers up to the age of 26. Those who enter its literary competition may be selected for a summer residency, where they have the opportunity to further develop their knowledge of literature. Throughout the year, the platform also promotes the work of young writers through public readings. The aim of Medziriadky’s educational activities is to cultivate the literary talent of young people, provide emerging writers with guidance and direction, and complement the literary education they receive at school. The Medziriadky platform also supports young writers on their path towards their literary debut.
Markus Formel (2001) is an author whose work cannot easily be confined to a single category. He studied European Governance at the Université du Luxembourg, but his interests extend far beyond political science – he writes both prose and poetry, works with music and graphic design, and occasionally ventures into visual art.
This year, he received the main prize at Literárny Zvolen, having previously participated in Medziriadky in the prose category in 2025 and in both prose and poetry in 2026. His texts confirm that moving between genres comes naturally to him, much like moving between countries. He currently has several inactive temporary residence permits.
He lives in Brno, where he works at an innovation centre. He is currently experimenting with the consciousness of artificial intelligence and its transformation into literature. His interests include the ways technology extends into human life and perfecting his recipe for bun bo nam bo.
