Anna Serra

Anna Serra publishes poetry collections and explores the oral dimensions of poetry through readings, performances, videos and multidisciplinary collaborations with other artists. Of Catalan origin, she gives bilingual readings of her texts and has translated the world of witches, carnival and dictatorship found in the first collection by the Catalan feminist poet Maria-Mercè Marçal.

All of Anna Serra’s collections draw on an incantatory form of poetry that seeks communication with all living beings and the awakening of a profound humanity within oneself through inhabited and inspired language. She searches for the primordial essence of the poem, its song of love and its energies, and the dreamlike wonder of the quest for the self.

Her influences include Romanesque art, the poets of Le Grand Jeu, the apocryphal gospels, her reading of contemporary poetry and its performative energy, as well as anthropological approaches to gift-giving, celebration and ecstasy. Above all, she is influenced “by the experiences to which a strong desire for liberation leads her”. Anna also gives workshops devoted to expressions of love in the work of mystical poets.

As the creator and editor of concepts promoting oral poetry — including the augmented-reality Revue Or and Radio O — and as an organiser of gatherings centred on poetry, she founded La Perle in 2020, an association dedicated to contemporary poetry practices based on a farm in the Morvan region.
