Nicol Hochholczerová

Nicol Hochholczerová (1999) comes from Rimavská Sobota and lives in Nové Zámky. She graduated from the Department of Graphic Art at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica. She is currently involved with Medziriadky, a platform for young literature, and her next professional path is leading towards education through the Teach Next programme.

Her debut book Táto izba sa nedá zjesť (2021) was nominated for the Anasoft litera Prize, and she received the Young Artist Award as part of the Tatra banka Foundation Art Prize. The book has been translated into English, German, Spanish, Finnish, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Ukrainian and Macedonian. Three stage adaptations of the work have been produced — at the Žilina City Theatre (2023, directed by Eduard Kudláč), at the Czech theatre company Kam jdeš? (2023, directed by Petr Michálek), and as a stage production by students of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (2023, directed by Patrícia Rotterová, LAB Theatre). A feature film based on the book is being prepared by director Barbora Berezňáková.

Her short prose has been published in the Poviedka collections (2016, 2019) and in the anthologies Mastný muž (2023) and Nemastná-neslaná (2026).

Tam (2026) is Nicol Hochholczerová’s second novella.
