CAGE_113

performative concert / contemporary dance performance

In September 2025, the art world commemorated the 113th anniversary of the birth and the 33rd anniversary of the death of composer, music theorist, philosopher, writer, visual artist, and performer John Cage (1912–1992). He was one of the most influential artists of the post-war era. His body of work includes a wide range of compositions, artistic and theoretical texts, studies, poetry, visual art, and theatrical performances — so-called happenings. He influenced countless artists around the world and left a unique mark on Slovak creative culture as well.

The project CAGE_113 presents the work of John Cage, performed by the leading chamber ensemble Ensemble Ricercata in collaboration with contemporary dance artists and video artist Jakub Pišek.
The performance also features the iconic work Diamondance (1967) by Milan Adamčiak, staged using a large-scale graphic score of the same name created by visual artist Michal Moravčík in 2009.

Ensemble Ricercata is a chamber music ensemble focused on interpreting the works of 19th- and 20th-century composers, as well as contemporary music. It was founded in 2010 by renowned Slovak pianist, educator, and cultural organizer Ivan Šiller, who also serves as its artistic director.

The project Resident Ensemble of Radio Devín – Ensemble Ricercata was nominated for the Radio_Head Award in 2015 in the category “Musical Achievement of the Year 2014.”

The ensemble’s concert programs are known for their innovation and conceptual integrity, offering audiences the opportunity to experience music in a broader artistic context. While Ensemble Ricercata performs globally recognized chamber music, the ensemble also actively seeks out and presents lesser-known but equally exceptional works on stage.

The project CAGE_113 was supported using public funding by the Slovak Arts Council as the main partner.

With support from SOZA. Organized by ISCM – Slovak Section.
