Eva Urbanová Šimková
Eva Urbanová Šimková (1986) is a literary scholar, critic, university lecturer, and occasional author of poetry and children's literature. She wrote the book Jeleňatý a Kravatý (The Antlered and the Necktied, 2019), which won the Readers' Debut of the Year award from Knižná revue and was also translated into Hungarian. Her other contributions to children's literature include participation in the anthology Dohviezdny večer (Starry Evening, 2021) with the story Na mesiaci nesneží (It Doesn’t Snow on the Moon), and the story Život v kufri Františka Bezdomovského (The Life in the Suitcase of František the Homeless) published in Bublina magazine (11/2019). In the field of literary scholarship and criticism, she focuses primarily on poetry, publishing studies, reviews, and other texts in domestic and international journals, anthologies, and collections. She is the author of the academic monographs: Between Dream and Fiction – The Poetry of Eva Luka (2022); Of Geraniums, Ants, and Rowan Trees (The Slovak Variant of Haiku) (2023). Together with Dalfar, she co-edited an anthology of Slovak haiku titled Silent Playgrounds with Trails Inked by the Swift Game (2024). She actively participates in Slovakia’s literary scene (regular poetry reviews for Knižná revue, discussions and talks such as Literárny kvocient and others; she has served as a judge for competitions including Zlatá vlna in 2019, BásneSK/CZ 2022, Akademický Prešov, Literárny Zvolen, and more). She is also involved in creative writing, leading writing workshops for children and haiku workshops for adults.
